Luxury Camping and the yurt phenomenon
I don’t know if you have noticed this, but there is an increasingly popular movement within the luxury camping scene recently. That is, the humble yurt.
Yes, yurts have become very popular over the last few years and luxury camping sites that offer yurt accommodation have been springing up all around the globe.
For those of you who don’t know what a yurt is, let me explain.
Yurts hail from Mongolia and were used by the nomads. They are circular structures with a frame of latticed wood and the covering is made of canvas. Felt wool is used for insulation in colder climes.
Westerners have adopted this form of accommodation and have been using yurts for some time now for a variety of purposes. Yurts have become popular for many reasons.
Yurts simply have that feel good factor that comes with round buildings. Rounded buildings create a special ambience as they are without lines, corners and angles. Round buildings are said to have a special effect on us.
Yurts are also an abode that facilitates a close connection with nature. You can hear the elements and nature that surround you – the wind, rain and hear the birds singing. The top of the yurt can also be opened so you can sleep under the stars at night.
Yurts often come with a fire inside. Often you will find a wood burning stove that can be used for heating and cooking. Or there may be a round open pit fire. With either fire you can fall asleep to the sound of the fire hissing and roaring. Mmmm…
Yurts are also well loved by the eco and green conscious folk. Nothing less than solar powered showers and indeed sometimes the entire yurt is solar powered.
Yurts are also well known for the famous “compost toilet”. A fascinating mindset change is to use compost instead of water when using the toilet which not only saves water, but produces a useable end product of a revitalising compost for the soil.
Just a few reasons for the rapidly growing popularity of yurts within the luxury camping scene.
Have you tried out yurt accommodation? How do you rate yurts compared to other forms of luxury camping? Would love to hear your experiences…

I just wanted to say that I’m pleased I took the time to read this blog. I was actually just about to go back to searching before I scanned through your first sentence. Your writing gave a reasonable, easy to read, and, best of all, different way of approaching the situation. Kudos bro!
